How to Sync Amazon Seller Central Inventory

elling on popular channels like Amazon, eBay, and Walmart can put your products in front of millions of potential customers overnight. It's a great way to expand your footprint and drive more sales. But it's more important than ever that you maintain accurate, up-to-date inventory at all times. We'll explain how following a simple checklist several times a day will help you keep price and quantity info synchronized on all your channels.

Why it’s important

Potential customers need to know you can deliver on your promises. When you say you have inventory, customers will have the confidence they need to buy from you. When you deliver on-time, you'll receive positive reviews, which will guide even more customers to your listings, and drive more sales.

As a seller, it’s your responsibility to make sure price, inventory, orders, and fulfillments are correct on all your channels 100% of the time.

Selling on a single new channel can disrupt operations and introduce a lot of pain, all on its own. Every time you add another channel, you have to take on the additional overhead involved with new data formats, processes, and requirements. It can get complicated very quickly!

Pitfalls

If you’re not careful, you can quickly run into problems like over-selling or inconsistencies with quantity and pricing. This can negatively impact your seller rating, which can be difficult or impossible to recover from.

How to stay on top of it

We recommend you have a plan to update inventory across all your channels when quantities or prices change, and every time an order comes in. Make sure accounting stays in sync to avoid nasty or expensive surprises.


Here’s a sample checklist to keep inventory up-to-date on Amazon Seller Central:

  • Start by updating the quantities and prices for all your inventory each morning. You can do this by manually setting the “Available” and “Price” fields under the “Manage Inventory” section in Seller Central.
  • If you have a large number of items, you may want to consider using uploading an inventory template file with your quantity and price info.
  • Whenever quantities or prices change, you should update them in Seller Central. You can make changes manually, or upload an inventory template with the info you need to update.
  • Wait a short while, and spot-check a few listings to make sure they reflect the changes.
  • Make sure your inventory stays in check when you sell on more than one channel. This will reduce the chances of accidentally overselling and disappointing your customers.
  • If you miss a few updates by mistake, consider uploading an inventory template with all your inventory and price towards the middle or end of the day.
  • Finally, keep your Seller Central login handy, especially if you need to make changes from multiple computers - work, home, on the weekends, etc.

Every channel uses a different process. Be sure to familiarize yourself with the different platforms and interfaces so you can make changes quickly and without confusion.
