How to Get Suspended From Amazon in Five Steps or Less
F

or many eCommerce businesses, selling on Amazon represents a significant percentage of sales and revenue. But sellers have to follow an ever-changing list of rules and requirements in order to remain active and competitive on the platform.

Most sellers spend time and effort making sure they're in compliance at all times. But it's actually not that hard for a determined seller to get suspended from Amazon!

Here are a handful of suggestions that are virtually guaranteed to result in a suspension notice:

  • Be deceitful. Open multiple seller accounts without Amazon's permission. This is in direct violation of Seller Central's Terms of Service and is bound to get some attention.
  • Be unpredictable. Keep customers guessing by using incorrect images, descriptions, inventory, and pricing.
  • Be unreliable. Never update shipping information. Amazon will think you haven't shipped and customers won't receive delivery notifications.
  • Be unresponsive. Ignore customer questions, comments, emails,  return requests, and Amazon A-to-Z claims. Amazon will think you don't care about customer service (and you'll lose money in returns and lost sales).
  • Be irresponsible. Sell restricted products without proper authorization or disclosures.

In all seriousness, an Amazon suspension could pose a major risk to your sales and reputation. If you're unfortunate enough to earn an Amazon suspension, there are a few things you can do to make it right.

‍

What to do if you get suspended

You must prepare and submit a Plan of Action that tells Amazon how will you address the issues, any actions necessary to satisfy any unhappy customers, and what you will do in the future to ensure the problems do not recur.

Keep calm and sell on

A solid Plan Of Action is the golden opportunity to convince Amazon of your selling potential and customer loyalty. A convincing, facts-driven, precise, and to-the-point Plan Of Action can save your selling future on Amazon.

After your selling privileges have been restored, it's important to make sure you're focusing on the right things:

  1. Never stop learning. Make sure you know what's going on with every aspect of your account.
  2. Amazon is relentlessly focused on customer satisfaction - they would rather have 10 unhappy sellers than 1 unhappy customer.
  3. Do your best to satisfy every customer. Accept returns well past the allotted window. Always respond to emails. Be friendly!
  4. Make sure every order is shipped on-time. Add tracking info to Seller Central as soon as an order ships.

At the end of the day, mistakes happen and there may be many variables outside your control. Take ownership of the problem, make the necessary adjustments, and you should be fine.
